Group One winning sprinter Jonker has made the move to Queensland’s legendary Eureka Stud for the 2026 season and he produced a timely debut metropolitan winner at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

The Toby Edmonds trained Novelty started favourite in the 1000m maiden and after settling midfield off a strong pace came with a determined finish down the outside under Ryan Maloney to get there on the line.

Novelty was sold at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale in 2024 to Holly Penfold for $20,000 from the Infinity Thoroughbreds draft then went through the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale for $2,000, selling to E & M Racing.

He’s the fifth foal of winning New Approach mare Novel Idea and goes back to a family which includes Group One winners River Dove and Captivant, along with successful sire Headwater.

Jonker, a son of Eureka Stud’s Champion sire Spirit Of Boom, was a tough sprinter that raced at Group level throughout his career, culminating with a win in the Group I Manikato Stakes at six.

He will have his second season runners this season and stands at Eureka at a fee of $7,700.
