Spirit Of Boom’s speedy daughter Sugar Boom made every post a winner in Saturday’s Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Doomben to credit apprentice Stephanie Thornton with her first stakes winner and Spirit of Boom with his tenth.
It was the third consecutive win and the fourth in the last five starts for the Tony Gollan-trained 3yo.
She kept up a relentless gallop to defeat Oh Five Glory (Unencumbered) by three-quarters of a length with Euro Belle (Eurozone) a long neck back in third.
“Sugar Boom goes really well for female riders and Steph is the best around at the moment. She won on Sugar Boom at the Sunshine Coast and I had no hesitation putting her on today even though she couldn’t claim,” Gollan told AAP.
“Sugar Boom is a much tougher filly this campaign. She has really bloomed over her break and I think she can now live up to her early potential.”
The daughter of Spirit Of Boom will join the Gollan battalion heading for the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.
A $100,000 purchase by Simon Miller Racing out of the Eureka Stud draft from book 2 of the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Sugar Boom advances her record to 4 wins and 2 seconds from 7 starts with earnings of $237,250.
A half-sister to the stakes-placed Intencion (Commands), Sugar Boom is the seventh winner from nine to race out of the stakes-placed Pins mare Acupuncture who was purchased by Eureka Thoroughbreds for $50,000 at the Patinack Farm dispersal in 2014.
A half-sister to dual Listed Stakes winner and Group 1 ATC Galaxy Hcp runner-up Anatina (Fastnet Rock) and the Listed winner Pricked (Thorn Park), Acupuncture died in 2017 and Sugar Boom is her final foal.
Sugar Boom becomes the tenth stakes-winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit Of Boom who has 11 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.
