Trainer Tony Gollan felt like a proud father when filly Outback Barbie gave him and sire Spirit of Boom the feature two-year-old double at Doomben on Saturday.
Outback Barbie ($8) held on to win by a long neck to Granny Red Shoes ($21) with a neck to Witherspoon ($3.20) in the Listed Calaway Gal (1100m).
Gollan also won the Phelan Ready Stakes with Ef Troop who is now the favourite for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 13.
Both Ef Troop and Outback Barbie are by first-season sire Spirit Of Boom whom Gollan trained to win the 2014 Doomben 10,000.
Gollan said Ef Troop looked the better horse but Outback Barbie would also be improved on her way to the Millions.
“EfTroop has run a much faster time but don’t forget he had a start before today,” Gollan said.
“It was Outback Barbie’s first start and she will improve greatly.”
“Like Ef Troop she will go to have a short break on the farm and then come back where she will have a jump-out or trial before the Magic Millions Classic.”
Gollan said the fact both his horses were by Spirit Of Boom, who stands at Eureka Stud, gave him a real thrill.
“I have watched them all come through and not just my horses. He was a great racehorse for me and now he is already proving a great sire,” Gollan said.
“I get two free services to him each year which naturally I will be using.”
